New Golf SV announced

Golf family grows in size to accommodate new MPV.

Lost count of how many different members of the Volkswagen Golf family there are (hatch, estate, BlueMotion, GTi, R...)? Well get ready to add the 'SV' to that list. Set to make its debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, the SV will replace the Golf Plus in the line-up when it arrives in July.

Called the Sportsvan when it was shown in concept form in Frankfurt last year, the SV is larger than the Golf Plus with (Volkswagen says) a more generous and flexible interior. Going some way to prove this is a rear bench seat that offers 180mm longitudinal adjustment (i.e. it can slide on rails) and a boot capacity of over 1,500 litres.

Anything else?
The Golf SV will feature a similar engine line-up to the standard Golf, with the bulk of sales expected to come from the 1.6-litre 110hp diesel engine.

Prices and additional specification information will be released in the coming weeks.
