Peugeot teases new concept

Onyx-like show car due to be unveiled by Peugeot in China in April.

Taking the current, slightly frustrating car manufacturer trend to give us 'teaser' shots of new metal ahead of its full reveal (usually on a motor show stand), Peugeot has given us the scantest details about its latest concept car, due to be unveiled at the Beijing International Automobile Exhibition in late April.

So now you want us to tell you about the exterior and mechanicals, presumably. Only... we can't. All we've got to go on is one shot of the car cloaked in a white sheet, some very brief facts and the promise that it comes from the same lineage as the Onyx concept of last year. Which, if you'll permit us to remind you, was a suitably outlandish creation featuring the 608hp, 3.7-litre V6 diesel engine from the 908 Le Mans racer with a further 82hp provided by an electric motor.

Peugeot says the new concept is a further preview of the brand's future design, letting us know the car will be 4.73m long and just 1.31m high. The company promises athletic styling capable of carrying four passengers and all their attendant luggage, with special craftsmanship inside using original materials as part of the Peugeot Style approach. And as far as cars under sheets go, the few outlines we can make out in the teaser pic look pretty good so far...

Anything else?
You might get a few more tantalising glimpses of this machine at the end of January. At the International Automobile Festival in Paris, from January 29 to February 2, an 'original and ephemeral' installation will reveal more details of this forthcoming concept. And you'll also get a chance to see the Onyx at this event, as well as the 308 R Concept, the 208 T16 Pikes Peak and a 908 HDi racer with particulate filter.
