Volvo slashes prices and loads up on specification

Pair of special editions added to Volvo V40 range, which now starts from €25,995.

Volvo Ireland has taken a butcher's knife to its pricelist and trimmed off some useful fat for its 2014 models. The headline grabbing figure is a new €25,995 entry point for the V40 T2 ES, but likely to attract more interest are a pair of special editions that have been added to the line-up. Available as either a 115hp D2 diesel or 120hp T2 petrol the special editions are priced at €26,995 and include leather upholstery, cruise control, 16-inch alloys, auto lights and wipers and a chrome exterior pack.

The company has also made specification upgrades to its S80 and V70 models with SE cars now coming standard with climate control, City Safety, leather seats, 17-inch alloys and a Bluetooth enabled audio system. SE Lux cars add power seats, satellite navigation and Active Bending Xenon lights.

The S80 and V70 are also now available with the latest four-cylinder Drive-E diesel engine. The 181hp unit offers emissions as low as 104g/km and can be had with either a six-speed manual or new eight-speed ZF automatic, with prices ranging from €40,995 for a S80 D4 SE up to €49,645 for a V70 D4 SE LUX Geartronic.

Anything else?
Last but not least are price cuts to the XC90 range as Volvo looks to shift remaining models ahead of a new car arriving next year. The big seven-seater is now available from €49,995 for a front-wheel drive 163hp D4 diesel in SE trim or €54,995 for an all-wheel drive 200hp D5.
