Lexus has revised its CT 200h premium hatchback to give a refreshed look, a more luxurious interior and higher levels of refinement. In addition, buyers will be able to enjoy more equipment as standard across the range; and the flagship F Sport version is soon to be even more distinctive.
Exterior
First, the looks; and we'll start with Lexus' signature grille. For the facelifted CT 200h, the spindle-grille's "pinch-point" has been moved lower down and the outer corners at the bottom of the grille have been moved outwards, creating a more planted, lower, wider stance. Round the back, Lexus has revised the bumper, replacing the outgoing version with an item featuring clearer horizontal styling lines, as well as L-shaped reflectors. New 10-spoke 16- and 17-inch alloys will be made available; as will a new range of paint finishes that come with a scratch-resistant and self-repairing top layer. A shark's fin antenna now also comes as standard.
Interior
The biggest updates are in the cabin; particularly the fixtures, fittings and infotainment system. In terms of technology, the CT 200h features a 4.2-inch TFT screen in front of the driver that can be linked to the car's main infotainment system. The central monitor has also been made thinner, and the system is now claimed to be easier to operate thanks to a revised Remote Touch Interface controller - and tweaks to its Lexus Media Display and Lexus Premium Navigation systems. Outputs from these sources are due to sound better as well, as Lexus has focused on using natural materials to improve the car's speaker quality including - for the first time in the industry - bamboo. A rear view camera, a tyre pressure warning system, and an 'off' button for the traction control will also come as standard.
In terms of fixtures and fittings, the entire range now comes with a better quality of cloth and leather upholstery. New colour combinations and dashboard inserts are also a part of the update; including the addition of 'shimamoku' wood as one of the dashboard finishes.
Mechanicals
Lexus has also been to work under the bonnet of the CT 200h, reducing CO2 emissions by up to six per cent, bringing the lowest emitting model down to just 82g/km. Furthermore, tweaks to the suspension, body rigidity and aerodynamics are said to have refined the driving experience, made the cabin quieter and the ride more comfortable. The car's transmission has had an overhaul too, featuring a remap that brings it more in line with a conventional automatic gearbox.
Anything else?
In addition to all the revisions, the flagship F Sport model has had even more work done to it. The spindle-grille features the same mesh found in the IS F Sport; the rear spoiler now creates more downforce; and 10-spoke 17-inch alloys can be fitted in a variety of finishes. Inside, the driver will now find aluminium pedals, kick plates and perforated leather-trimmed driving controls.
Lexus Ireland has yet to confirm how the updates will apply to the Irish market CT 200h, but it's expected to be available by second quarter of 2014.
