As a result of this, Volkswagen Commercial is fitting a chafe protector at the affected points on all vehicles with this engine as a precautionary measure, affecting around 239,000 vehicles globally, but only 287 vehicles in Ireland. This work will be carried out at no cost to the owner by any authorised Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle garage. Volkswagen Ireland will be writing to owners of the affected vehicles notifying them of the recall.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is also the subject of a recall. The problems is described as this: "in isolated cases, a fuse may trip in the Tiguan, thus resulting in failure of one of the two vehicle light circuits. This in turn could cause individual light functions to fail. However, the vehicle's electric circuitry ensures that some lights remain on all around the vehicle. The driver is immediately informed of this on the instrument cluster."
This recall affects 800,000 vehicles globally, with 945 in the Irish market.
The relevant vehicle owners will be informed by Volkswagen accordingly. For anyone with any concerns they can call Volkswagen Ireland Customer Care on: 1850 812761
