Bentley Flying Spur debuts at the 2014 Power on Ice driving experience

What’s the news?
The Power on Ice driving experience returns once again for 2014, but this time will feature the new Bentley Flying Spur in addition to the existing array of Continentals the company already uses for the event. For an extended time from 6th February – 6th March 2014, the Power on Ice driving experience is the place to be for drivers who want to hone their skills when it comes to high speed ice driving.

The venue features a series of snow and ice circuits all designed by honorary ‘Bentley Boy’, Juha Kankkunen; a man more than qualified for the job. In addition to his 23 world rally titles, he has also set the world ice speed driving record twice behind the wheel of Bentley Continentals. “The Flying Spur is going to be an excellent addition to the Power on Ice experience,” comments Kankkunen. “We’re looking forward to showing what it is capable of.”

On this front, the Flying Spur has the right ingredients to make it shine on ice. The car gets its 616hp from Bentley’s signature 6.0-litre W12 engine that’s fitted with two turbochargers. The colossal output makes the Flying Spur the fastest luxury four-door production car in the world with a top speed of 320km/h.

Not that anyone will be trying to attain this speed on one of Kankkunen’s circuits; despite Bentley’s all-wheel drive system helping things along. This all-wheel drive configuration is the same set up found in the Bentley Continental; of which both the 6.0-litre W12 and 4.0-litre V8 models will attend the event. These cars will then be taken under the wing of Bentley’s own factory-trained drivers in order to coach event guests during their four-day stay.

Anything else?
As well as the obvious appeal of hooning Bentleys around ice tracks for four days, attendees will also have full access to the Ruka Peak resort during their stay. It's believed by some that the resort offers some of the best wintery scenes Finland can offer; as well as having open fires, saunas, first class local cuisine and transportation to Helsinki airport via private jet to make the experience complete.
