McLaren P1 performance figures revealed

"We see your lap time and raise you our 0-100km/h time" - McLaren to Porsche.

Last month Porsche took its new hybrid supercar to the Nürburgring and set a new lap record and then spent a few weeks basking in the PR glow of the 918's amazing 6 minutes 57 seconds lap time.

Seems Porsche's supercar rivals have cottoned on to the good PR (and resulting column inches) from posting good figures. However, while McLaren is known to be testing its new P1 at the Nürburgring it has not yet beaten the Porsche's time; officially McLaren is not trying, instead working on ride and handling, but we do not believe a word of it.

Without a new record to brag about Woking has instead released performance figure for its hybrid P1 and frankly we are amazed by them as we were by the Porker's Ring time.

How does 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds grab you? Or an electronically controlled top speed of 350km/h? Possibly even more impressive are the eco stats (in a 350km/h supercar kind of way); 8.3 litres/100km (or 34mpg in old money) and 194g/km. Okay the P1 is not likely to be beating the Toyota Prius on an economy run, but this is a 916hp twin-turbo V8 that Jeremy Clarkson recently described as "a complete game changer. The next chapter in motoring. Speed like you simply would not believe."

Anything else?
The McLaren PR offensive comes after the first customer car is delivered to its new owner. Well we say delivered, but the UK-based billionaire (we are guessing s/he is a billionaire as the car costs €1.2 million) collected their Volcano Yellow and contrasting carbon fibre from McLaren's Technology Centre themselves.
