Volkswagen's electric Frankfurt

Volkswagen's stand goes electric mad for the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Volkswagen has revealed its plans for the Frankfurt Motor Show, which opens to the public on 12th September. The theme is 'Electrifying', which refers to the vehicles on display, the other exhibits, screen shows and the stand itself. Covering almost 9,000 square metres of exhibition space the stand will showcase the new e-Golf, the Golf R and one further model still to be announced.

At the centre of the stand is a 61-square-metre LED wall that leads to the Think Blue walk. This takes visitors past Volkswagen's most economical models, showcasing efficient powertrains and alternative technologies. An 'Innovation Wall' provides more information on the technology used and on sustainability. There are cars too; including the e-Golf, 'e-up!' and XL1.

Volkswagen has provided a lounge area as well, which will host DJ sessions. In addition the Dutch innovation design artist Anouk Wipprecht has been commissioned to create a 'fashion tech collection' for the motor show, which will be exhibited in the lounge.

Anything else?
The stand itself uses over 2,300 lamps and 90 kilometres of cable. It also uses over 150 tonnes of steel and took 24 days to build.
