MINI launches new in-car apps

There's an app for that, even in your MINI...

MINI has announced that Apple's App Store now contains even more applications that are compatible with its MINI Connected service. As well as a new social networking/geolocation app there are three additional audio apps that will now work alongside MINI Connected.

Glympse
The app that MINI is getting most excited about is one called Glympse. The idea behind this app is to make getting together easier as it provides real-time information regarding the user's whereabouts, and has the ability to connect to other Glympse users to track their position, too - all from the comfort of the car. As well as being able to track Glympse users in real-time, the app can provide information regarding speed and estimated time of arrival to a set destination.

To keep the service secure, only authorised users will be able to track individual cars; and the location service will automatically shut down after a maximum of four hours. After the four hours, users will have to reconnect to each other in order to continue tracking.

Audio apps
In addition to Glympse, MINI has announced that three audio apps - Audible, TuneIn Radio, and Napster/Rhapsody - now also come with MINI Connected compatibility.

Audible, a subsidiary of Amazon, provides listeners to over 135,000 books, magazines, newspapers and the like; all of which can be streamed through MINI Connected. The 70,000 radio stations via TuneIn Radio can also be enjoyed this way; as can Napster/Rhapsody's vast catalogue of music tracks.

Anything else?
These new apps join other MINI Connected services such as Facebook, Twitter, Dynamic Music and Mission Control.
