Jaguar previews new 550hp XJR saloon

New York debut for 'most agile and responsive XJ ever' from Jaguar.

This is our first glimpse of the new Jaguar XJR before the model is officially launched at the New York Auto Show; the covers will come off on 27 March.

Exterior
The styling isn't dramatically different to the standard XJ saloon. Jaguar's single official press shot shows a small 'R' badge in the bottom right corner of the radiator grille and a set of large, five-spoke alloy wheels.

Interior
We'll have to wait until the show for a look at the XJR's cabin.

Mechanicals
Under the bonnet is Jaguar's 550hp, supercharged 5.0-litre V8. The XJR also gets its own chassis and aerodynamic developments and it is claimed to be the most focused, agile and responsive XJ ever made.

Anything else?
Jaguar will show off its R performance models alongside the company's other new arrivals: the F-Type and all-wheel drive XF and XJ saloons.
