Run-out Merc C 63 AMG gets 50hp boost

'Edition 507' Mercedes C 63 AMG does what it says on the tin.

Recognising that the C-Class is no longer in its first flourish of youth AMG has bumped up the power of the C 63 AMG with the Edition 507. That number relates directly to the power output, which equates to a 50hp bump over the 457hp of the standard car. Now, not many people get out of the C 63 AMG thinking it needs more grunt, but obviously the power nuts at Affalterbach have different ideas. Torque rises to 610Nm too, the 507 Edition's 6.2-litre V8 engine benefitting from some SLS-derived internals to produce its more prodigious power and drop the 0-100km/h time to 4.2 seconds.

Exterior
There's not really much AMG can do the C 63 to make it more of an extrovert, but it has dipped into the parts bin to find a Black Series sticker, added a vented bonnet, new cross-spoke alloy wheels (behind which sit composite brakes with red callipers), a boot spoiler (saloon and coupé only) and some matte graphite graphics along the lower side sills. High gloss black finishes cover the mirror caps, the daytime running light surrounds, boot spoiler and radiator grille, while darkened headlamps also feature.

Interior
Three different leather options with contrasting stitching are offered. An Alcantara covered steering wheel featuring a 12 o'clock marker is standard too, while Dinamica covers the AMG Speedshift lever, which is topped by an AMG badge, while the instruments contain red highlights. Edition 507 badging also features.

Mechanicals
Those composite brakes have six piston callipers up front, four-pot items at the back, usefully increasing the Edition 507's stopping power. Making it go quicker is an additional 50hp, the 507hp achieved by the adoption of some internals from the SLS's 6.2-litre V8 engine. Forged pistons, new connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft remove 3kg from the engine, reducing inertia and increasing flexibility. A limited-slip differential remains on the options list. We suggest you add it.

Anything else?
The 507 will be offered in saloon, coupé and estate guises, all delivering the same 0-100km/h time of 4.2 seconds and electronically limited 280km/h maximum. The coupé and saloon return 23.5mpg and the estate 23.1mpg. Good luck achieving that. No word on prices for the 507as yet.
