Mitsubishi's baby gets a new name

Colt supermini replacement to be called 'Space Star' - announced alongside new eight-year warranty.

Mitsubishi Motors Ireland has announced the name for its new Colt replacement. The new supermini is scheduled to arrive in Ireland in February and will revive the Space Star nameplate that was last seen on a mini-MPV, which ceased production in 2004.

Details on pricing are yet to be confirmed but we do know the Space Star will be available in two trim levels.  The 1.0-litre Invite will have an emissions figure of 92g/km and uses 4.0 litres/100km (70.6mpg) while the more powerful 1.2-litre Intense model will return 4.3 litres/100km (65.7mpg) and emissions of 100g/km.

The low emissions mean both models sit in band A2 for motor tax and will cost just €180 a year to tax. Further good news comes with the official confirmation that the Space Star and all other Mitsubishi passenger vehicles will be offered with an extended warranty that brings cover up to eight years, or 150,000km.

The warranty (which CompleteCar.ie reported on in November ) could not come at a better time for Mitsubishi as it begins to introduce a model line-up full of environmentally friendly (and low emissions) cars including the Space Star and Outlander crossover. The latter range is to include a plug-in hybrid model.
