Exterior
As we covered before the first cars include the Style Pack, usually a €1,600 option. The new A-Class is much lower and more sporting in appearance than its predecessor. Buyers may specify a more aggressive AMG Sport pack too.
Interior
The iPhone and iPad generation are in Mercedes' sights; the on-board infotainment system is designed to stream music and support Apps. Siri, the voice activated software is supported by the new A-Class.
Mechanicals
Despite the 180 part of the model designation neither A 180 has a 1.8-litre engine. The petrol unit is a 1.6 with 122hp while the diesel displaces 1.5 litres and has 109hp. More engine choices will join the range later. Wheel and tyre choice affects CO2 emissions but on 16-inch alloys the A 180 CDI is rated at 98g/km.
Anything else?
Mercedes-Benz reports that a backlog of orders has built up since the A-Class' introduction at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. However, the company's sales manager for Ireland, Ciaran Allen, expects supply to keep pace with demand, at least during the model's introduction.
