Mercedes reveals A-Class prices

Irish buyers to receive free upgrade on the base-level model.

Mercedes-Benz Ireland has announced pricing on its most prominent A-Class models; which unusually features the entry-level model in the line-up. The A180 will go on sale priced at €26,435 for the petrol version, or €28,550 for the diesel. Both are expected to be the company's best-sellers; particularly the diesel version as it offers buyers low road tax with emissions of just 98g/km.

Exterior
The new A-Class looks much more youthful than the car it replaces, sitting 18cm lower to the floor for a start. The fresh looks are also helped by the accompaniment of the Style Pack, which Mercedes is throwing in for free on all base-spec models - normally priced at €1,600 if purchased separately. Buyers can also choose from the Urban Pack and Sports Pack to further individualise their cars.

Interior
In its attempt to reach out to a younger clientele, Mercedes has based the car's features heavily on its iPod and iPad compatibility; offering not only iPhone Siri voice-activated units and an infotainment system that works with iPad applications, but also by allowing users to design their A-Class via a smartphone app.

Mechanicals
Mechanically, all A-Class models will be fitted with stop-start as standard; and will be sold with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. The new four-link rear suspension unit comes with an optional sports setting, along with Mercedes' Direct Steer system. Collision Prevention Assist, Attention Assist, Adaptive Brake Assist and Brake Hold are also all fitted as standard.

Anything else?
Following the car's unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, 40,000 examples have been ordered globally before the company even starts production. The new A-Class should hit Ireland's shores in December.
