Toyota smashes electric racer record

Toyota stole the EV record at Pikes Peak by over two minutes.

Toyota Motorsport GmbH has broken the record for electric vehicles at this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Event.  The TMG EV P002 race car was driven by Fumio Nutahara, and got round the 19.99km track in 10 minutes 15.380 seconds - over two minutes faster than the previous record.

The motor used in the car is a high-powered TMG unit, developing 350hp and 900Nm of torque.  The chassis is based on the lightweight Radical track car and can hit a top speed of 240km/h in Pikes Peak specification.

This latest achievement was no doubt helped by the TMG crew spending the previous three days on-site, fine tuning the TMG EV P002 to get the fastest possible time.

"Following the record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, TMG wanted a new challenge," said Rob Leupen, TMG Director for Business Operations.  "It's a great achievement from the team here; now we start the search for the next milestone for the TMG electric powertrain."
