Toyota recalls Avensis and RAV4

Potential issue with rear suspension on some Toyota Avensis and RAV4s means owners will be contacted to get their cars checked.

Toyota is conducting a recall of certain Avensis and RAV4 models.  The cars in question were manufactured between November 2008 and January 2010 for the Avensis; and November 2005 and August 2010 for the RAV4.

An issue has been identified concerning the rear suspension arm.  If the nuts for adjusting the rear wheel alignment are improperly tightened this could result in knocking from the suspension.  Under some circumstances the two portions of the arm could separate, adversely affecting the handling of the vehicle.

No instances of this problem have been reported in Ireland.  However Toyota is keen to assure customers that their interests are its top priority.  Owners will be contacted and invited to make an appointment with their local dealer.

The initial inspection should take 30 minutes and if it is necessary to fit replacement parts then this would take between two and three hours.  David Shannon, Managing Director of Toyota Ireland said, "In the event of an issue being identified the repair procedures will be carried out at a time that is convenient and which ensures minimal disruption for, and at no cost to, the customer."

Owners who are concerned are invited to contact their local Toyota dealer or Toyota Customer Service on 01 4190222.
