Details of new small Mitsubishi released

This Japanese-market Mitsubishi Mirage is thought to be close to the version coming to Ireland in 2013.

Mitsubishi has announced that its new eco-hatchback, the Mirage, will be available from Japanese dealerships by the end of August. Technical details have yet to be confirmed for the Irish version, and the Mirage may be renamed Colt when it hits our shores.

Exterior
Buyers are given the choice of eight solid and metallic paint finishes, and at launch the Mirage will be available in three trim levels: E, M and G. All models come with keyless entry, while electric folding mirrors and tinted windows are available on M and G trim levels - and auto-lights only in top-spec G guise. The aerodynamics of the body have been optimised to aid fuel economy and efficiency, and as such achieves a low drag coefficient of just 0.27.

Interior
Black and Black/Ivory interior trims are both available from launch, each with a piano-black finish to the centre console. M and G-spec cars come with automatic climate control and an Eco Drive Assist display, giving the driver information about current fuel consumption and how long the engine has been stopped when the Mirage's stop-start system is active.

Mechanicals
The Mirage's 1.0-litre three-cylinder MIVEC petrol engine is fitted to all models, developing 69hp at 6000rpm, and achieving 64mpg (4.4 litres/100km) on a Japanese equivalent of the combined cycle. A wide-ratio CVT transmission, regenerative braking and stop-start on M and G trim levels also contribute to the economy figures. All models are equipped with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution as standard, with Active Stability Control and Brake and Hill Start Assists available across the range.

Anything else?
The details above relate the Japanese model only. We're awaiting details for the European car, though to hit the Irish market in early 2013.
