New Volvo S60 to start from €32,250

Volvo releases prices and specifications for new generation S60.

Volvo has released price and specification details for the new S60 saloon ahead of its arrival in showrooms in mid August. Prices for the long overdue replacement for the original S60 (which was launched back in 2000) start at €32,250 for the D3 S.

Four trim levels are available - S, ES, SE and SE Lux - with standard equipment for the all-new model now including City Safety (which automatically brakes the vehicle from speeds up to 30km/h if the car in front stops), DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control), WHIPS (WHIplash Protection System), SIPS (Side Impact Protection System) and inflatable curtain airbags that protect the driver and occupants.

The new entry-level S trim has air conditioning, a 'performance' audio system and textile upholstery. The ES trim, from €33,750, adds electronic climate control, cruise control, five-inch colour screen infotainment system, alloy wheels and leather steering wheel. The SE level starts from €36,500 for the D3 diesel engine and adds the following to the ES model: textile/vinyl upholstery, aluminium trim on the dash, auto dimming rear view mirror, electric door mirrors, rain sensing wipers, high-performance sound system, Bluetooth, rear parking sensors and 17-inch alloy wheels. SE Lux offers power driver's memory seat, leather upholstery and 'Active Bending' headlights.

Power outputs from launch range from 163- to 205hp. The first of those two figures comes from a new five-cylinder 2.0-litre D3 engine producing 163hp and 400Nm of torque. Mated to a manual transmission, combined fuel consumption is 5.1 l/100km. The latter is from the 2.4-litre D5 engine now with 205hp and 420Nm of torque; this version accelerates from 0-100km/h in 7.8 seconds. Both engines in manual guise have CO2 emissions of 139g/km, meaning annual road tax of €156.

A new estate version of the S60, the V60 Sport Wagon, will go on sale in the autumn with prices and specifications being announced closer to launch.
