Exterior
Despite still wearing its prototype disguise it is obvious that the new car owes much of its looks to the Dezir concept that was shown at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The grille, lights and oversized diamond badge have been lifted directly from the electric concept and are joined by muscular side skirts, twin exhausts and a rear diffuser.
Like the standard Clio the Renaultsport will only be offered as a five-door but a swooping window line and rear handles hidden in the C-pillars will give the car a three-door look.
Mechanicals
Renault has still not confirmed exactly what engine will power the new Renaultsport Clio but the smart money is on a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol unit, likely related to the one used by alliance partner Nissan in the hot Juke. Unlike the Nissan though, which has to make do with 190hp, the Clio should see a power output of 210hp; putting the newcomer squarely into MINI John Cooper Works territory. The car Renault's CEO, Carlos Tavares, drove at Goodwood was fitted with a new twin-clutch transmission but a six-speed manual will be offered as standard.
Anything else?
The new Renaultsport Clio is expected to make its debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year in September before going on sale in early 2013.
