Volkswagen creates new Scirocco GTS

Loads of extra show, but no more go for Scirocco GTS.

What's the news?
Ahead of next week's Leipzig Motor Show, Volkswagen has taken the covers off the Scirocco GTS, built as a tribute to the original GTS, which was released 30 years ago.

Exterior
The new generation GTS features black and red stripes running from bumper to boot, unique front and rear bumpers and chunkier side skirts. The rear diffuser and roof-lip spoiler have been borrowed from the Scirocco R and the car runs on 18-inch 'Thunder' alloy wheels.

Interior
On the inside, the seats are trimmed in black leather with contrasting red stitching. The GTS name is embossed into the headrests and also replicated on a pair of scuff plates, while the gear lever is the dimpled golf ball design that is usually reserved for the Golf GTI (the dimpled knob was also fitted to the original Scirocco GTS of 1982).

Mechanicals
The Scirocco GTS is powered by the venerable 210hp 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that can be found fitted to the Golf GTI and also the quickest (non R model) Scirocco.

Anything else?
Also on Volkswagen's stand at the Leipzig show will be the Beetle Fender, the result of collaboration between Volkswagen and the guitar and amplifier manufacturer. The special edition features a 400W Fender sound system with a 10-channel amplifier, a dashboard finished in trademark 'Sunburst' wood and each car will come with three limited-edition guitar picks.

An R Line variant of the Volkswagen CC and an Urban White version of the recently launched CrossPolo will also debut in Leipzig.
