Geneva Motor Show: Hyundai Veloster Turbo

Turbocharged Veloster coupé not yet confirmed for Irish market.

What is it?

The Hyundai Veloster we have been waiting on since the wacky 2+1 coupé was launched. By bolting a high compression twin-scroll turbocharger on to the engine the Veloster Turbo now produces 186hp and 270Nm of torque, as apposed to the 140hp/167Nm offered by the standard 1.6-litre engine.

Why's it here?

The turbocharged Veloster coupé was originally shown at the Detroit Auto Show in January so Geneva marks its European debut. It is also the first car to feature the new 1.6 T-GDI engine that we expect to see fitted to more performance orientated offerings from the Korean manufacturer.

Show stopper or floor filler?

Tough one to call. The looks of the Veloster are no longer as show stopping as they originally were but the performance version that has been craved may cause people to pause momentarily before moving on to the latest Ferrari/Lamborghini.
