Nissan concept previews new X-Trail

Nissan Hi-Cross concept likely to show more crossover-like X-Trail replacement.

With only a teaser video to go by, details are still sketchy, but the new Nissan Hi-Cross concept, due to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next week, is set to become the new X-Trail.

From what we can make out, the new crossover will feature a deep distinctive grille flanked by some sharp headlights that flow into some pronounced wheelarches. There are also some suitably narrow side windows and an angular C-pillar that cuts into the rear doors of the concept. Certainly where the current X-Trail looks a little stale, the new one should manage to stand out amongst the crowd with ease.

No details have been released on the cabin yet, but expect it to mix the funky elements of the Juke with the function of previous X-Trail models. And with the eternal success of the Qashqai ringing in its ears, Nissan will likely have concentrated on the driving dynamics too - ensuring this model feels much more car-like than those that have come before. Engine wise expect it to use the 1.6 Turbo seen elsewhere in the range, and various small capacity diesels.

Despite civilised on-road dynamics though, the X-Trail has always been a bit of a dab hand on the rough stuff, and we'd expect this car to follow suit - so there's likely to be a full-time or switchable four-wheel drive system to help.
