Electric Citroen takes to track

Citroen's Survolt electric concept is set to make its track debut at the Le Mans classic on 10 July.

Since its unveiling earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, Citroen's fantastic Survolt electric sportscar concept has been content to wow the crowds at various shows, but this weekend it will make its on-track debut.

With a tubular chassis and carbon-fibre body work, the Survolt is light for an electric car, tipping the scales at 1,150kg. Power comes from a pair of electric motors, developing around 300hp; it boasts a claimed top speed of 260km/h, and a 0-100km/h time of less than five seconds. A range of 200 kilometres means that the Survolt could complete most race distances (if not the Le Mans Classic!), although pit-stops may take somewhat longer, with a recharge time of two hours via a specific power supply - or ten hours on the normal, 220-volt mains.

Spectators at this weekend's Le Mans Classic race in France will have the chance to see the Survolt on track at 1:30pm. Vanina Ickx, daughter of retired F1 driver Jacky, will take the wheel.
