Hot VW up! to debut in Geneva next month

ABT may be the first company to release a hot version of the VW up!.

We've already driven the hottest version of the Volkswagen up! (review on the way), but with only two pre-production models of the 110hp GT in existence it hardly seems the ideal car for a tuner to base its latest work on. That has not stopped German tuner ABT Sportline. At the Geneva Motor Show the self-proclaimed largest tuner of VW Group cars will display the ABT up!, a car described as the smallest ABT ever.

Details on the specifics of the car are scarce with the only clues relating to design elements like the mirror caps, side skirts and headlight masks, but the blurb from ABT describes its car as "an alpha male through and through" with the only conservative thing about it being the fuel consumption.

Alongside the up! ABT will also display its interpretation of the Audi Q3 SUV. Called the QS3 (the S seemingly stands for 'even sportier' - something obviously got lost in translation), it packs a 2.0-litre TSI engine that has been tuned to produce 270hp. To make sure it has the looks to go with the power ABT has also given the exterior a thorough makeover.

If you prefer your cars diesel-powered ABT can offer you the AS6 Avant (we assume it is 'even sportier' as well). Thanks to a bit of under-bonnet fiddling the twin-turbo 3.0-litre TDI engine now produces 360hp, up from the 313hp offered by Audi. Sporting quad exhaust pipes and an aggressive body kit the AS6 Avant is marketed as a fast 'premium transporter.'

The ABT Beetle may pack 240 thoroughbred horses under the bonnet but apparently does not qualify for 'even sportier' greatness. Rolling on 20-inch rims the new Beetle sports lowered suspension and discrete styling changes that aim to enhance the looks of the new, manlier car. However, as the pictures reveal little we will just have to wait until the doors open to the Geneva show to find out for sure.
