Ohme Mazda deal brings home chargers to Irish EV buyers

Ohme, the Cork-based charging provider, has signed a partnership with Mazda, which will see it provide home chargers for Mazda Ireland's electric car customers.

How many electric cars does Mazda sell in Ireland?

Right now it has one on sale, and one coming very soon. The Mazda 6e is a sleek all-electric saloon (actually a fastback) with a 78kWh LFP battery and a range of up to 552km. That will very shortly be joined by an almost equally sleek CX-6e electric SUV, which is based around the same platform, battery, and electric motor.

"With the all-new CX-6e arriving in early December into our showrooms along with the recent arrival of the Mazda 6e in Ireland, this represents an exciting chapter for Mazda as we continue to broaden our electric offering. This new collaboration with Ohme will be a great addition to further enhance both the ownership and overall Mazda experience to our customers," said John Perry from Mazda Ireland.

"Ohme's unique software and dynamic charging technology will help owners to reduce their running costs and favour renewable energy sources, making it an ideal partner for Mazda."

How cheap is it to charge a Mazda at home with an Ohme charger?

Pretty cheap, although that will of course depend on the electricity tariff you're on at home. Ohme chargers are clever, though, and can automatically check to see when electricity is at its cheapest before turning on the flow of current, and of course you can control them remotely and set charging times in advance. Fully charging a Mazda 6e using an Ohme charger on a smart EV tariff such as Energia EV Smart Drive (other tariffs are available) at off-peak times could cost less than €10 for its 552km range. The chargers also come with a Solar Boost function, which automatically uses power from your solar panels, assuming you have them, when they're generating enough juice.

What does Ohme say about the Mazda deal?

Martin Gray from Ohme said: "I'm delighted to announce this new partnership with Mazda in Ireland. The new range of Mazda EVs look really exciting additions to their range, so it's great to be able to combine those with Ohme to give Mazda drivers the best home charging experience possible."
