I’m not sure you quite appreciate what a big deal the Skoda Kodiaq is in an Irish context. This big, and let’s not forget, expensive SUV (the cheapest now costs more than €54,000) is a major player in the Irish car market, and so far in 2026 it’s the fifth-best-selling car. So it’s significant that Skoda is expanding the Kodiaq line-up with two new models.

Read our Skoda Kodiaq reviews.

What’s the first new Skoda Kodiaq model?

The first new Kodiaq is a 200kW plug-in hybrid. That’s in addition to the existing 150kW PHEV version that’s been on sale for a while, and it uses the same plug-in hybrid system we’ve seen in various Volkswagen, Audi and Cupra models, based around a 150hp petrol engine and a 19.5kWh battery. That 200kW output equates to 272hp, so this will be among the most powerful Skoda models around. Like the existing 150kW hybrid, it offers up to 119km of electric range on a full charge and 50kW DC fast charging when you’re out and about.

And the other one?

A more luxurious version of the Kodiaq is also coming: the Laurin & Klement model. Named after Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement, who founded the Skoda brand (well, actually, they founded a bicycle and motorbike maker, Slavia, which then started making cars in 1905, and which in 1925 was bought out by the Skoda Works, which up till then had been focused on heavy engineering and military manufacturing), Laurin & Klement has long been the top-spec trim across the entire Skoda range. Equipment highlights include ‘Cognac’ leather seats with a massage function, complemented on the outside by silver roof rails, body-coloured front and rear bumpers and side sills, and alloy wheels designed specifically for the L&K trim.

Sounds good. When can I buy one? Or the other?

Ah. That’s a bit of an issue. CompleteCar checked with Skoda Ireland to find out when the faster, more luxurious Kodiaqs might arrive, but we were told these new variants “aren’t in Skoda Ireland’s plans just yet.” That doesn’t mean they never will be (and, to be fair, we’d be surprised if they’re not eventually), but for now, we’ll just have to play the waiting game.
