Kia Ireland offers free home charger with new electric and plug-in hybrid cars

Kia is now offering its Irish customers a free home charger when they buy a new electric model or a plug-in hybrid car.

Does the charger offer also include installation?

Yes, it does. When you order your new electric or plug-in hybrid Kia, you simply fill out some forms and Kia will do the rest.

What kind of charger is it?

The Project EV Nano charger is a compact ‘untethered’ unit (which means it doesn’t have an attached cable — you just use the one that comes with the car), capable of up to 7.4kW of AC charging power. It’s weatherproof, of course, and comes with mobile phone app control and RFID card access, so only you can activate it. It also comes with a five-year warranty.

What do I need to do?

Simply fill out a short form when you buy your new electrified Kia, which will also involve taking a few photos of the location where you want to install the charger. Charge Happy, the company working with Kia Ireland on this offer, will then contact you to arrange an on-site visit to organise the installation.

And it’s completely free?

Yes, but there is one wrinkle — you will have to pay a €300 deposit up front, but that will be refunded to you as part of the SEAI home charger grant at the end of the process. There may also be additional costs if you need extra cabling, a meter or fusebox upgrade or other works. You will also need to apply separately for the SEAI home charger grant as part of the process.

How long does this all take?

According to Kia, the process should take no more than four weeks.

Which Kia models are part of this offer?

All of the Kia EV-badged range is included in the offer — so that’s the EV2, EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6 and EV9 — along with plug-in hybrid versions of the Niro, Sportage and Sorento.
