But don’t be fooled by that flim-flam. Essentially, what you’re looking at here is an early preview of the car to replace the DS 3, which – presumably to fit in with its latest naming policy – will become the DS No.3.
Let’s have more details on the F3ver, then.
It stands 4.19 metres long (with a 2.7-metre wheelbase), 1.84 metres wide and 1.46 metres high, which makes it slightly longer and wider than the outgoing DS 3, but also slightly lower.
DS Automobiles would invite you to note the “instantly recognisable” light signatures. At the front, that means they look like vertical ‘Y’ symbols, but it’s at the back where we’re most impressed.
These things look like two light tunnels stretching all the way into the car, but they’re of course just a clever trompe-l’œil conjured up by 16 LED panels, supported by an ultra-lightweight magnesium structure said to be modelled on the vaulted roof of the Grand Palais. Very chic.
It’s got to be more than some swish lights, though?
Indeed so. DS would draw your eye to the F3ver’s extensive personalisation of the car, including for that distinctive ‘roof ring’ on top of the car.
Bold colour choices will be another aspect of this, with this nowhere more evident than with the concept’s eye-catching Cosmic Blue dichroic colour – this can shift from vivid blue to deep violet hues, depending on the light.
And speaking of lights, look at those hand gestures in that rear totem screen in the bumper.
Hand gestures?!
Not those ones you’re thinking of. They’re more positive symbols and they create a genuine sense of interaction between the car and its environment.
Moving on. The DS F3ver’s wheels are pretty fly, given they’re utterly massive and they have a geometric design. They’re also enhanced with ‘Clous de Paris’ guilloché, which is to say they’re decoratively engraved.
Any final details?
Well, one metric DS has handed out is that the F3ver has a 400-litre boot, although it then proffers up some rather vaguer specifications, such as the car having “class-leading range”.
We look forward to finding out more about this one, as and when concrete details emerge. Until then, we’re just going to get lost in those sparkly, 3D rear lights.
