Nothing at all?
It seems that way. Alpine’s show stand star will be the PS1, or Projet Spécial 1, and so far, all we have to go on is this heavily cropped image of one of the car’s headlights.
That seems quite… patriotic
It does, or at least it does if you’re French. Don’t expect to see this neat little tricolour repeated on any production version — forward facing red lights are a big no-no as far as European legislation is concerned.
What about the rest of the PS1?
What indeed? So far, Alpine isn’t giving us much to go on, but it has said that the PS1 will be something very different.
So far, Alpine’s model lineup has been essentially divided in two — there’s the ‘Extraordinary Everyday’ models, such as the A290 and A390, which are fast, fun, but usable on a daily basis; and the ‘Icons’ which so far has been limited to the A110 sports car.
The PS1, notionally, sits outside these and forms a third arm of Alpine’s lineup, which so far is being referred to simply enough as the ‘special projects pillar.’
Are there any other clues?
Kind of. Alpine has previously spoken about two potential future models which will expand its range. The first is the A310, which is expected to be a larger, more powerful version of the next-gen A110, which will also get 2+2 seating to turn it into a potential Porsche 911 rival.
That seems more like it would come under the heading of ‘Icons’ though and not need to be part of a third Alpine model strand.
However, there’s another, more likely, possibility — there have been vague hints and rumours that Alpine wants to take aim at Ferrari and build a hybrid-engined hypercar to rival the likes of the 296 GTB and even the new Testarossa. Is that what the Paris concept is all about?
Well, is it?
We don’t know — but we’ll find out for sure next week.
