Lamborghini Revuelto SV is reportedly the brand’s most powerful production model ever.

Another day, another wild - and wildly expensive - new supercar is revealed at the Monterey Car Week (which seems like it now goes on for a month or so). This time it's Lamborghini's turn with its new Revuelto SV.

What's an SV?

SV is a bit of a hallowed name (alright; acronym) in Lamborghini circles. It stands for Super Veloce (it literally translates as super fast, proving that Italian nominative determinism is the best nominative determinism…) and was first used way back when in 1971 for the most powerful version of the legendary Miura. Since then, we've had the Diablo SV in 1995, the Murciélago LP 670-4 Super Veloce in 2009, and the Aventador SV in 2015.

OK, but what's a Revuelto?

Ah, sorry. It's Lamborghini's flagship, a V12 mid-engined supercar that follows the famed lineage of Miura-Countach-Diablo-Murciélago-Aventador. It's Lambo's ultimate.

So is the SV the ultimate-ultimate?

Precisely. Lamborghini says that the Revuelto SV is the fastest-accelerating and most powerful production model it has ever made (note: there have been faster and more powerful one-offs and limited-run models).

"The Super Veloce lineage is one of the most iconic in Lamborghini's history, reserved for some of our most extreme V12 models,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lamborghini. "With the Revuelto SV, we continue that tradition by taking our V12 flagship to higher expression of performance and driving emotion. Sharing this milestone at The Quail, together with our top customers and enthusiasts in our largest global market, is the perfect way to celebrate the next chapter of the SV legacy.”

What makes this Lamborghini Revuelto an SV?

Lamborghini has tweaked the Revuelto's plug-in hybrid setup, which combines a 6.5 litre nat-asp V12 with three electric motors. Normally, that combo would produce a not-insignificant 1,015hp, but in the SV, that has been increased to 1,065hp. That's enough for a 2.4 second 0-100km/h run, and a top speed of 345km/h. Private race track not included.

Lamborghini says that the Revuelto SV has: "greater downforce, more precise handling and enhanced lap-time performance during track driving, [advancing] Lamborghini's high-performance strategy while delivering on precision, responsiveness, and driver engagement.”

What else is Lamborghini up to?

Alongside the Revuelto SV, there were also Monterey debuts (at the famous The Quail supercar gathering) for the Lamborghini Temerario Tricolore and the Urus SE Performante. The Temerario Tricolore "celebrates Lamborghini's Italian heritage through a unique Ad Personam specification inspired by ‘Made in Italy' craftsmanship and design” (which basically means it gets a big Italian flag stripe up the bonnet and roof) while the Urus SE Performante gets some performance tweaks giving it a 3.3 second 0-100km/h run, and a top speed of 312km/h, which Lamborghini says: "establishes a new benchmark for performance, becoming the fastest Super SUV in the world” (although it might be worth pointing out that the Aston Martin DBX can match that 0-100km/h time).

What do we think of these latest Monterey debuts?

Leaving aside the Temerario (which has barely changed at all) and the Urus (ugh…), the Lamborghini Revuelto SV feels kind of old-school these days, in spite of its plug-in hybrid powertrain (a whole 10km on battery power, kids!). It's perhaps not the most headline-catching car appearing at Monterey this week, but it's never a bad thing to see Lamborghini push the boat out and give us only its fifth SV flagship ever.
