OK, so what does it look like?

Well, not entirely surprisingly, it looks rather like the cabin shown off in the original Type 00 concept car - the one that stirred up all the controversy last year.

The production Type 01's interior is, of course, a little less dramatically minimalist, largely because it has to, y'know, function as the cabin of an actual car.

So what's different?

The driver's display screen is more prominent now, and there's a neat, phone-like screen interface on the central spar of the cockpit, which has shortcut icons to control the likes of the air conditioning and stereo volume.

The steering wheel is a little more conventional too, and has simple control buttons, which looks broadly similar to those used by the current Range Rover lineup.

Beyond that, the interior is quite starkly pared back by previous Jaguar standards, and there's more than a hint of 1970s architectural minimalism going on.

One really interesting aspect is the rear-view mirror. Because the Type 01 doesn't have rear glass, it's a digital camera-based ‘mirror', and the view screen is mounted down low, on top of the dashboard, rather than dangling from the top of the windscreen, which is rather in the style of classic E-Types and 1950s XK sports cars.

Jaguar says that by keeping the rear-view display at the same eye level as the door mirrors, it can help with driver focus.

What else can we see?

We can see that Jaguar hasn't entirely broken with its past traditions, as there is a ‘leaper' logo etched into the cabin - the outline of a namesake Jaguar cat stretching its limbs as it pounces, which has been part of Jag's iconography for decades now.

As with the concept car, the cabin is highlighted with brass, a soft-looking metal that's more welcoming than stark chrome.

There are also concealed storage compartments, and what Jaguar describes as ‘hidden-until-needed technologies.'

When will we get to see more?

The interior of the Type 01 will be shown off during Monterey Car Week in California in the coming days, along with a near-finished production car which will be wearing a very thin disguise wrap.

The reveal will coincide with a massive celebration of Jaguar's heritage at the famous Pebble Beach Concours on August 16.
