Fiat 600 gets manual gearbox and Sport trim

Fiat Ireland is introducing some new models to the lineup of the 600 compact SUV, and for the first time, the 600 will be available with a manual gearbox.

Is the manual in the sports model?

Er, no. As is the way of things these days, the manual 600 is the basic, entry-level model. The six-speed manual gearbox combines with a 100hp version of the 1.2-litre petrol engine (which incidentally switches from a timing belt to a more robust timing chain in the interests of long-term reliability), and Fiat reckons that it's now "in line with Fiat's tradition of honest, human‑centred mobility.”

OK, what about the Sport version?

The 600 Sport is also a new addition to the lineup, but if you're expecting lots of extra performance, er, don't. The Sport is very much a styling pack, which adds a contrast black roof to the paint lineup (which now includes a very distinctive 'Acid Green') along with dark-finish 18-inch alloy wheels, black accents on grille inserts, handles, and rear lights, and Sport badges. There's also a black interior finish, and you can have Sport trim for either the 110hp hybrid version or the 156hp fully electric e600.

Any other changes?

Yup, across the entire Fiat 600 lineup, there are now new alloy wheel options, revised lights, some new interior trim, a new centre console, and some updates for the touchscreen.

How much, and when can I have one?

We're still waiting for a price for the new entry-level 600 manual, but the electric e600 and the 110hp hybrid are priced at the same €28,495 in basic form, and both can be had with a 2.62 per cent interest PCP deal, or a 3.9 per cent interest HP offer. Oh, and all Fiats in Ireland now come with a five-year warranty.

If you fancy the new 600 Sport, then that will be €33,995 to you, sir or madam.
