MG has only just launched the affordable, practical MG 4 Urban EV hatchback, but the Chinese brand with the British badge wants more, so it's planning an all-new MG 2. We'll see the first signs of this car at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, where MG will reveal a pair of concept cars.
If one concept previews the MG 2, what's the other one?
Good question. So far, MG has said that one concept "is a new B-segment electric hatchback due to join the MG range in 2027", so that's the MG 2, and we can see from these teaser images that it looks set to take on a totally new design direction for MG, eschewing the brand's current sharp-edged look.
The other concept? Well, so far, all MG is saying is that this will be "an electric design vision, an aspirational upcoming model to further enhance the MG line-up." So, go figure… It seems more likely to be some kind of far-sighted design proposal, to warm us up for the next generation of MG models.
Will these new models be built in MG's new European factory?

Yes, that seems very likely. Clearly, a compact model is aiming right at the heartland of the European car market, so making the MG 2 at the company's recently announced new factory in Galicia, in north-west Spain, makes huge sense as it will allow MG (and its parent company, Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corporation, SAIC) to avoid the hefty tariffs that the EU charges for imported electric cars, built in China.
What else is MG up to?
As well as these new concepts, MG will be using the Goodwood event to show off its seven-seat MGS9 PHEV SUV (still not coming to Ireland, sadly), plus the rest of the existing MG lineup.
When do we get to see the new concepts?
MG's head of design, Jozef Kaban, will reveal these new concepts around mid-morning on Thursday, 9 July, so keep your eyes peeled then.
