Kia PV5 seven-seat version confirmed for Ireland

Kia PV5 seven-seat version confirmed for Ireland Kia PV5 seven-seat version confirmed for Ireland

We've driven and loved Kia's quirky-looking PV5 MPV, the brand's massively spacious electric family car based on its new commercial vehicle, but there was clearly and literally room for improvement with a seven-seat version, and now that's on the way.

When does the seven-seat PV5 arrive?

According to Kia Ireland, the first seven-seat models should be here in Ireland in July. The seven-seat model will get a 2-2-3 seating layout, with two seats in the middle row and three across row three, leaving space to get into the back row without needing to fold or tilt any other seats.

There's also an unusual six-seater layout, which uses a single seat for the driver in the front, with luggage space left over where the passenger would normally sit, and it will not surprise you in the least to learn that this version, especially, is aimed at taxi operators.

Does the extra seating affect the range?

Yes, a little. The seven-seat versions of the PV5 have a 390km range on the WLTP test, which is 22km less than you get in the five-seat version, so it's not a massive hit to the range. As before, there's 150kW DC fast charging, and all PV5 models are getting an upgrade, to coincide with the arrival of the seven-seater, which includes 22kW AC charging (which should be available on Irish cars from January).

What other improvements are coming for the PV5?

Other improvements in this round of updates include walk-away locking, a flat radio aerial that keeps the overall height below 1.9 metres, and enhancements for the commercial versions. Don't forget that there are also bigger PV7 and PV9 models due in 2027 and 2029, respectively.

"We are excited to enable more passengers to enjoy the Kia PV5, now available with the three rows of seating. This versatile vehicle builds on the strong value proposition of the PV5 in its segment,” said Erhan Eren, PBV Director at Kia Europe. "The PV5 redefines what customers and passengers can expect from an electric van, maximising flexibility while offering comfort and space for everyone on board.”
