Mazda is upgrading and updating its current smallest model, the Mazda2 Hybrid.
The Mazda2 Hybrid is a straightforward 'self-charging' hybrid, with a 1.5-litre engine allied to a compact battery and electric motor, driving the front wheels through a CVT transmission. It develops 116hp, and can deliver a combination of 3.7 litres per 100km fuel economy and emissions as low as 85g/km. If that all sounds familiar, well, it should - the Mazda2 shares its engines and much of its cabin and bodywork with the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, as part of a broader tech-sharing agreement between the two companies.
How has Mazda updated the Mazda2 for 2026?

First off, Mazda is adding more equipment. PrimeLine models will now come with heated front seats2 a height-adjustable passenger seat, rear power windows, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and an upgraded four-speaker audio system.
Prime, Centre, and Exclusive models now get body-colour door mirrors, while Homura and Homura Plus versions get contrast-black mirror caps. Exclusive-Line now features full LED headlights and rear lights, while Homura and Homura Plus introduce updated interior finishes, including new gloss-black design accents across key areas, such as the front console and door trims.
Any other exterior changes?

Yes, there are also three new colour choices - Charcoal Grey, Sky Grey and Fern Green.
What about tech updates?

Mazda has upgraded the Mazda2 Hybrid's safety package, with the inclusion of a driver attention monitor that uses an infrared camera to make sure you're not dozing off or staring at your phone.
When can I buy one?

Pretty much straight away - production of the updated Mazda2 Hybrid actually started in March, so the first cars should be reaching dealers any time now.
