If it's almost summer, then that means the big tennis tournaments are imminent, and while for many that means Wimbledon, there's a cooler and more stylish event coming up first - the French Open on the distinctive brown-orange clay courts of the Roland Garros stadium.

What does this have to do with cars?

Well, you see just as tennis events are inevitable once the sun starts shining again, so too are special-edition cars to tie in with those tennis events.

This year, it's the turn of Renault, which has been an official partner of the French Open for the past five years. For 2026, the French car maker has created a special edition of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric.

What makes this Renault 4 special?

It starts with Glacier White paint (rather like tennis whites, non?) that's set off by a contrasting black roof and roof pillars.

You also get silver trim on the front wings with the Roland-Garros symbol, 18-inch 'Parisienne' alloy wheels with a smoked varnish finish and Terracotta Brown wheel hubs, and front and rear bumper trims also in Terracotta Brown - mirroring that brown clay-court surface that makes matches at Roland Garros look so unique. There's also a Roland Garros logo on the front wings.

What about the interior?

First off, the interior is also the exterior, because the Renault 4 Roland Garros comes with the ultra-cool 'Plein Sud' fabric sunroof that runs the full length of the roof.

On the seats there's a custom grey fabric made from fully recycled materials, and which has a pattern that's meant to mimic high-performance sportswear.

There's also a sports-clothing-like open weave effect, and some cool blue sections to the upholstery. The seat backrests get an embossed Roland Garros logo.

The front and rear door panels and lower dashboard strip get inserts matching the seat fabric, alongside the blue colour and a small French flag.

On the dashboard, there's an anodised metal finish with a backlit area displaying the name "Roland Garros Paris”.

The tip of the column-mounted gear selector is designed to look like the grip of a tennis racket, with the Roland Garros logo at the end, in the same way as on the base of a racket.

The centre console features a clay-coloured wireless charging pad. Clay-coloured floor mats with the R4 logo brighten up the floors and there are brushed aluminium door sills with the name "Roland-Garros Paris” and the Cross of Saint Andrew, part of the stadium's history.

Anything else?

The adorable new Renault Twingo will also be a star attraction during the French Open, as Renault starts to show that car off to the world, and the French car maker will be providing transport for the tournament with a fleet of vehicles, 88 per cent of which are fully-electric.

Following on from last year's innovation, there will also now be two fully autonomous buses, based on Renault Master vans, shuttling spectators from the outlying car parks to the stadium.
