Nissan has updated the seven-seat X-Trail for 2026, with new technology and a more rugged, off-roading version for those who appreciate the outdoor life.
What's new about the X-Trail?

The standard X-Trail models now get new exterior styling with an updated grille and tweaked headlights, as well as optional 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. There are also new gloss-black lower bumpers, wheelarch surrounds, side sills and mirrors, new rear lights, and new colour options too - Universal Blue and Baja Storm, both of which are available in two-tone with a contrast black roof.
What's new on the tech front?

The X-Trail gets the latest Nissan touchscreen software that we've already seen in the Leaf and the Qashqai, which includes built-in Google software, so you get native Google Maps, and you can download extra apps from the Google Play store.
The voice control has also been updated so that it now understands more natural language, and you can use it to control the ventilation system, heated seats and windscreen, to navigate to your next destination, or instruct the system to make a phone call or send a message.
There's also an updated 3D-view surround camera system, which now comes with wider-angled lenses for the cameras, and which has an 'invisible bonnet' mode for tackling awkward terrain. There's also a T-junction mode, which gives you a better view of oncoming traffic when you're nudging out from a side road.
Nissan has also updated the X-Trail's ProPilot assistance systems, giving it anticipated speed sign recognition, more accurate traffic sign detection, undertake prevention, smoother braking and acceleration with more stable lane keeping, especially in narrow lanes.
In terms of engines, the existing E-Power hybrid system is carried over.
You mentioned a more rugged-looking version?

Yes, this is the Nissan X-Trail N-Trek model. Nissan says that this version of the X-Trail is perfect for those "whose idea of a perfect weekend is gearing up for mountain biking trails, skiing trips, or even just an adventurous family walk challenge.”
The N-Trek gets a more obviously rugged look, with 'Magma Red' bumper inserts and contrast interior stitching, plus black-and-red Nissan logos on the wheels, tailgate, front grille and steering wheel. There's also a cool, subtle 'magma red' Mount Fuji 'easter egg' logo in the boot.
You also get full LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, black roof rails and chunkier bumpers, plus three distinct 'nostrils' set high up in the nose.
Inside, there's an electric panoramic sunroof, and seats covered in a cool 'CellCloth' waterproof upholstery, waterproof rubber mats and a reversible boot liner.
When can I have one?

Nissan Ireland will open the order books for the updated X-Trail in the second half of 2026.
