The Cupra Born is being updated for 2026 with some subtle exterior design changes and a technology bump on the inside. A new launch control function adds more spice to the range-topping Born VZ, too.

What's new with the Cupra Born exterior design?

This 2026 update includes minor exterior alterations to the Cupra Born, placing the emphasis on a more focused, performance-orientated look that spans the full range - regardless of powertrain.

New LED headlights underline that look with a fresh take on the brand's signature three-triangle lighting signature that also appears on the Cupra Tavascan and Formentor. A new welcome animation greets owners when the car is unlocked.

The Cupra wordmark no longer appears on the car's nose, while the front bumper has been redesigned. It now includes air curtains on its corners to optimise aerodynamics and create a broader, more planted look.

Moving to the rear of the car, the Born gains a more prominent aerodynamic diffuser. It's here that the visual performance upgrades to the Born are most noticeable and, like the front, all versions get this treatment.

Cupra's designers have also reworked the rear light clusters. These carry a new interpretation of the triple-triangle design forming a singular illuminated piece encompassing the Cupra logo.

A nifty new built-in bike rack is also available but, when not in use, it leaves the Born's performance-based looks unaffected.

Any new colour and wheel options?

To complement the exterior changes, Cupra is adding a new colour to the palette called 'Timanfaya Grey'. This new shade sits alongside Glacial White, Midnight Black, Aurora Blue, Vapor Grey and Dark Forest.

Two new 19-inch wheel designs are optionally available with a 235mm-wide tyre. These sit alongside three 20-inch wheel designs that include a new copper finish to the 'Firestorm' wheel, which is one of the optionally available designs for the Born VZ.

What are the interior changes?

Most obvious of the changes to the Born's interior is the addition of a new 10.25-inch digital cockpit that replaces the previous 5.3-inch display. While screens this size are nothing new, it does transform the cabin look and brings a more upmarket finish to the Born. The graphics provide a richer appearance, and these can be customised to suit personal taste.

A new steering wheel sees the return to physical buttons, which will undoubtedly come as good news to many. The overall functionality remains the same, with circular satellite buttons for accessing drive modes and a shortcut to the Cupra setting.

New door inserts continue the work done with the new steering wheel, with a bank of proper buttons for operating the front and rear windows.

What about performance?

The Cupra Born will continue to be available with a choice of two batteries: a 58kWh battery, which has an official range of 449 kilometres, and a larger 79kWh battery that provides up to 598 kilometres (pending final homologation).

That smaller battery is paired with a 190hp electric motor that drives the rear wheels. The Born's larger battery is available with two motor options, starting with a 231hp unit. Topping the range is the Born VZ, which gets a punchy 326hp motor driving the rear wheels.

The peak DC-charging speed for the larger battery is quoted as 185kW. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) is also supported, enabling the charging of external devices directly from the car's high-voltage traction battery.

Borns equipped with the larger capacity battery also get an updated launch control function that exploits the torque of the motor to give it the best possible acceleration away from rest. Added theatre via the new digital instrument display and sound influenced by the company's Formula E car enhances the experience.
