The MGS6 EV has gone on sale in Ireland, priced from €39,495. The S6 EV is a five-door, five-seat electric SUV sitting above the MGS5 EV in the lineup and it will be offered with rear- or all-wheel drive in a choice of two trim levels and an official range of up to 530 kilometres.

Is it well-equipped for that super price?

Well this is MG... The entry-level version for that sub-€40,000 Irish price is the MGS6 EV Excite LR (Long Range) and it comes as standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and steering wheel, a 12.8-inch touchscreen with built-in navigation, 10.25-inch digital instrumentation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a reversing camera.

It also gets the entire 'MG Pilot' suite of active safety systems that is included across the lineup, helping the MGS6 EV achieve a five-star Euro NCAP result.

For €3,000 more - that's €42,495 if your mental arithmetic is a bit dusty - you can get into the MGS6 EV Exclusive LR. For your three thousand hard-earned Euros you get larger alloy wheels (20 inches in diameter), significantly upgraded upholstery in synthetic leather and suede, heated rear seats, ventilation and electric adjustment for the front chairs, an upgraded stereo, a 360-degree camera system, ambient lighting and a lush panoramic glass roof. No wonder MG Ireland reckons this'll be the biggest seller.

Both of the above are propelled by a rear-mounted electric motor producing up to 244hp and 350Nm of torque, with 0-100km/h quoted as 7.3 seconds.

Topping the lineup is the - deep breath - MGS6 EV Exclusive DM (Dual Motor), costing €46,495. This has the same specification as the Exclusive version detailed above, with the addition of - as if you couldn't guess - another electric motor.

This drives the front wheels, so the big SUV gets all-wheel drive. It also increases performance so peak power rises to 361hp and torque to 540Nm. A rapid 5.1-second 0-100km/h time is claimed.

Hang fire; you never mentioned the range

Yes I did, at the top of the article; were you not listening? MG quotes up to 530km. That's for the entry-level model on the smaller wheels. All cars have the same 77kWh lithium-ion battery using nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) chemistry. The DM model manages 485km, incidentally.

The peak DC-charging speed is 144kW, meaning a theoretical 10-80 per cent charge in 38 minutes.

I have lots more questions you didn't answer...

That's ok, we already published a detailed review of the MGS6 EV which should answer any buyer's queries, and our video review is embedded below.
