Lexus LF-LC coupé revealed ahead of Detroit unveiling

Concept previews possible SL and 6 Series competitor.

Having whetted our appetite with teaser shots of the bonnet and interior Lexus has officially released the first full pictures of the concept it will bring to the Detroit Auto Show in January.  Dubbed the LF-LC, the 2+2 sports coupé has been conceived as a design exercise with an eye on the styling of future Lexus models.

Lexus is remaining coy regarding actual information about the car other than to say that the LF-LC has been "Crafted (by the Calty design studio) from a clean sheet of paper at the request of Lexus headquarters in Japan" and "The clean lines of the vehicle emphasize motion, creating a distinctive look for this futuristic sport coupé."

To our eyes the large coupé would seem to preview a possible Mercedes-Benz SL and BMW 6 Series competitor. Lexus has not had an entrant in this category since the demise of the SC 430.

No word yet on what kind of engine will power the LF-LC, although some have gotten excited by the LF designation and are hoping for a LFA style V10 powerplant. Unfortunately we have to burst that particular bubble; LF, or Lexus Future, is the name given to all Lexus concept cars.
