Polestar boss Michael Lohscheller has announced a major new 'product offensive' for the Swedish high-performance electric brand, which will kick off with the arrival of the sleek, low, Polestar 5 super-saloon this summer.
When does the Polestar 5 arrive in Ireland?

The 5 is only weeks away from landing here. The company calls it a 'five-door GT', and it uses a bespoke chassis structure, with up to 870hp, and a range of up to 670km, depending on which model you choose.
The Polestar 5 will be priced against other high-performance electric four-doors such as the Porsche Taycan and the Mercedes-Benz EQS. Colour us excited about this one.

What comes after that?
Once the Polestar 5 is on the ground, the brand's rejuvenation of its lineup really hits a high gear with something unexpected - an estate. Well, sort of.

The company is taking its sleek Polestar 4 crossover (that's the one with no rear window), and extending out the bodywork at the back so that it becomes more practical, and effectively the brand's first estate car (although it will keep the high-ish ride height of the existing Polestar 4).
The new arrival - which will have a rear window, as it happens - will bring with it a rejigging of the 4's badging, with this new, more practical version becoming the Polestar 4, while the existing model is renamed the Polestar 4 Coupe.

"Polestar 4 coupe is our current best-seller” said Lohscheller. "Already by the end of this year, we will launch a new variant of Polestar 4, based on the same great technology. With this car, Polestar will once again set new standards. Sweden is famous for its estate cars, and its SUVs are world-class. We are combining the space of an estate and the versatility of an SUV with the dynamic performance that is Polestar.”
There seem to be more interesting things lurking in that photo...
Oh yes, and two more crucial models to the future of Polestar you won't find. First up, somewhat surprisingly given that we had expected it to come later, is a new Polestar 2.

The current Polestar 2 - which is still one of the best all-round EVs you can buy - is a relatively old design, in production since 2019 and revealed as a Volvo concept car in 2016. So the new Polestar 2, arriving in 2027 (i.e. only next year), is needed, as Polestar has 190,000 happy Polestar 2 customers to keep onside.
The new model won't stray too far from a successful formula, but a switch to a more modern platform will liberate more interior space, and the P2 will gain the split-L headlight shape from the P4 and P3.
"Polestar 2 is the foundation of our brand, with over 190,000 cars sold and an enthusiastic community of customers. Bringing the next generation of this iconic car in record speed, by the start of next year, is very exciting. The car that we became known for will play a key role of our future success,” said Lohscheller.
Finally, there's the Polestar 7, which will be the brand's all-important mid-size electric SUV, taking on the likes of the BMW iX, Audi Q6 and Mercedes GLC EQ. This car is based on the same platform as the new Volvo EX60.

The Volvo has a range of up to 815km, and the Polestar 7 is expected to be, as is now the brand's tradition, lower and sleeker than the Volvo, so a range of 850km might well be possible.
Lohscheller knows how important a mid-size SUV is to the brand, saying: "With Polestar 7 we are entering the largest EV segment in Europe, the compact SUV segment, which accounts for approximately one-third of total BEV volumes in 2025. We are convinced that we can offer customers a progressive performance-driven car for a very attractive price point, built in Europe.”
What else should we know?
Interestingly, Lohscheller is saying that he's not interested in getting into a volume sales war with the big German luxury car makers but instead is focused on making sure that each Polestar that leaves a dealership is sold at a profit, with a target of 100,000 sales per year - although he stopped short of putting a date on reaching that number.

You may have also noticed a gap in the Polestar badge lineup, there. We've already had the Polestar 1 (the gorgeous, fast, hybrid-engined coupe built only in very limited numbers), and we've had or are getting the 2, 3, 4, 5 and now 7. What about Polestar 6?
Well, that's still being worked on, and will be Polestar's first convertible sports car, based on the 2024 concept car of the same name. Don't expect to see that before 2028 though, and it may slip beyond that launch date too as Polestar concentrates on getting its bigger-selling models up to speed first.
