Polestar is improving its charging access with a new Polestar Charge app that now works across more than one million charging points around the world, and can access 20,000 Tesla Supercharger connectors at 1,500 locations in Europe.
How does this work?
All of the charging payments can now be integrated into your Polestar app, which means you won't have to fumble around with other apps, with RFID cards, or with contactless credit or debit cards when you need to top up while on a longer journey. The Polestar Charge app will take care of all the charging costs you rack up, and specifically in Ireland works at more than 48 compatible charging stations, including Cashel, Naas Road, and Gormanston, to name a few.
What about Tesla access?
Yup, Polestar is one of the few car makers which can now use Tesla Superchargers in Europe, with access to more than 20,000 individual connectors - which is pretty much all Supercharger locations - all of which can charge at up to 270kW.
Better yet, when you need to find a charger, Tesla-branded or otherwise, the built-in Google Maps navigation in every Polestar model will be able to take you straight there, and can instruct the car's battery to precondition for the fastest possible charging en route.
Which other charging networks are compatible?
Polestar's Charge app also works with the likes of IONITY, Recharge, Total, and Fastned, and it can offer discounted charging at 80,000 charging points across 42 charge operators. According to Polestar, the Charge app now has 45,000 users, up by 30 per cent from 2024. Polestar models also all have plug-and-charge capability, which allows you to connect to a charger, and then let the car's on-board systems handle the payment, which means you won't even need to open the app.
Olivier Loedel, Head of Product Software Management at Polestar, says, "With Polestar Charge we give our customers access to one of the biggest charging networks in Europe. By expanding plug-and-charge and fully integrating Tesla Superchargers, we're improving our premium seamless charging experience even further. Our strong charging offer, integrated with the in-car navigation in Google Maps, sets us apart from many competitors.”
