Tesla has announced that, similar to the Model Y SUV, the Model 3 saloon will now come with a basic 'Standard' model, at a starting price of €38,990.

What's different about the Standard model?

Basically, this basic Tesla has less equipment as standard. Leather-like upholstery is now combined with cheaper cloth, the centre console is now an open storage area, there's no subwoofer nor AM/FM reception for the stereo, and there's no more electric adjustment for the driver's seat nor steering wheel.

Have they taken anything else out?

Yup, the rear seat touchscreen is gone, and there's no physical key - you have you use your phone to unlock the car.

What about performance?

The rear-drive Model 3 Standard has an official range of 534km at 13kWh/100km energy consumption. The 0-100km/h time is 6.2 seconds.

What equipment do you actually get?

Standard spec includes 18-inch alloy wheels, the 15-inch combined touchscreen and instrument panel, remote climate control, Sentry Mode, trip planner, and of course access to the Supercharger charging network. There's also adaptive high-beam headlights, heated front seats, two wireless charging pads, and three USB-C sockets.
