Polestar will roll out Google's next-generation AI voice assistant, Gemini, across its range in a software update, with an early public demo running in a Polestar 5 at Slush (one of Europe's leading tech events) in Helsinki this week.
The plan covers Polestar 2 and every model after it via an over-the-air Google update. Gemini replaces Google Assistant and adds generative AI, so drivers can use more natural speech and ask follow-up questions rather than sticking to fixed commands. Polestar says a "Hey Google, let's talk" prompt will unlock a deeper conversation mode called Gemini Live.
Sid Odedra, Polestar's head of UI and UX, said the Google partnership is about steadily improving the in-car software experience: "Our collaboration with Google is a great example of how we continue to evolve the digital experience in our cars. Gemini brings the next generation of AI voice interaction into the car, and we're excited to give a first look at how it will enhance the driving experience."
Haris Ramic, director of product management at Google, said, "We have collaborated with Polestar for years on bringing innovative technology to connected cars. We're excited to bring Gemini to Polestar 5 and showcase it at the Slush conference."
If you already own a Polestar, you'll be happy to know that Gemini is coming to existing cars, not just new ones. Polestar says customers will start to see Gemini from 2026, beginning with US English.
Availability, features and any required subscriptions will depend on market and account set-up, and some connected apps still need one-time configuration.
The Slush showcase is a preview rather than a full launch. Visitors in Helsinki can try the guided demo at the Polestar stand, which is positioned as a first look at how the assistant handles everyday requests and follow-ups in the cabin.
