Work With Pride Japan has given Nissan a Gold rating for the ninth year in a row, recognising the carmaker's efforts to support LGBTQ+ staff and the wider community.
The award is based on the Pride Index, which looks at company policies, staff training and awareness, HR systems and benefits, community activity and public communications. Work With Pride cited Nissan's ongoing internal programmes and its public engagement in Japan.
Inside the company, Nissan runs regular e-learning, seminars and other training to build understanding of LGBTQ+ issues. Since August 2019, it has recognised same-sex and common-law marriages for marriage leave and congratulatory payments.
From April 2024, those partnerships have been treated the same as legal marriages across personnel systems. Nissan is also adding executive sponsorship and formal recognition for its LGBTQ+ employee resource group.
Outside the company, Nissan has sponsored and taken part in Tokyo Rainbow Pride since 2019. Around 100 employees joined the 2025 parade. Work With Pride said the mix of internal support and public activity underpins this year's Gold rating.
Nissan says it's running broader diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives across its global operations. The aim is to create a workplace where staff feel supported and to reflect that approach in how the company engages with customers and communities.
