Carzone, the hugely popular Irish car sales site, has launched its first People's Choice Car Awards. The idea is that these awards will: "celebrate the most popular and best-loved used cars on Irish roads.”
Who's judging these awards?
Ah, that's where it gets interesting because it's not just going to be the usual motoring journalists getting together over a massive lunch to decide. Instead, the Irish people are going to get a vote on some of the best cars.
What are the categories?
There will be lots of categories, ranging from an overall Car Of The Year to the Most Loved EV. There will also be a special Experts' Choice Award, which will be judged by a panel of respected motoring experts, including our very own Shane O'Donoghue of CompleteCar.ie, a World Car Awards juror, and this award is designed to: "recognise innovation, performance, and design in new cars.”
Indeed, that's true of the event as a whole, as Carzone says the awards will: "recognise excellence across both the new and used car markets, combining public opinion and expert insight to crown Ireland's most loved and best-performing cars.”
When does it all take place?
Carzone says that public voting will be open soon, and the best thing to do is to follow Carzone on social media to keep up to date. Speaking at the announcement, Ailish Connolly from Carzone said: "The Carzone Car Awards put motorists firmly back in the driving seat. These awards are shaped by the car lovers and automotive experts who buy and love cars every day. Above all, at Carzone we love cars too, and this new initiative reflects that shared passion.”
