Nissan has used its domestic Japan Mobility Show to display a range of vehicles that underline its corporate commitment to sustainability - and among them was the refreshed Ariya, due to land in Europe in 2026.
What do we know about the updated Ariya?
Not a huge amount at this stage, although it's clear the front-end appearance of the revised Ariya takes its inspiration from the recently launched Leaf.

Indeed, Nissan itself says the Ariya incorporates features which support the company's "vision of intelligent mobility”, while other updates include Google-powered infotainment, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and suspension tweaks aimed at improving the SUV's ride comfort.
Whether there will be any change to the current battery choice options of 63- or 87kWh units remains to be seen, as does the potential return of the flagship 435hp Nismo model. We'll bring you more details on the Ariya as and when they land.
OK, and what else was Nissan showing in Japan?

It was focusing on its 'Re:Nissan' plan, which has already seen the launch of the new Leaf, as well as an updated 2026-model-year Skyline saloon and the all-new Nissan Roox 'Kei' car, the latter of these shown in Japan where its tech-heavy interior - centred on what the manufacturer claims is the first 12.3-inch infotainment display in this sector - was there for all to see.
Moving on, the fourth-generation Elgrand people carrier was also under the spotlight. This is not a model we get in this part of the world, but the new one is said to incorporate the company's latest electrified powertrains (the third iteration of the e-Power hybrid system, already seen in the Nissan Qashqai), as well a cabin that "exudes a private, lounge-like atmosphere” - including what are described as zero-gravity captain's chairs in the second row.

I like the look of the big square 4x4 model in the pics - what's that?

It's a famous and long-serving nameplate returning to action in Japan, as that is the Nissan Patrol. The manufacturer calls this a premium yet rugged, terrain-conquering SUV, marking Nissan's return to a segment (in Japan) it hasn't competed in since production of the Safari ended in 2007.
The Nissan Patrol is not expected to launch in Ireland.
