Polestar wants its new, sleek, super-saloon to make a bit of a splash, but just in case 884hp isn't enough, the Sino-Swedish company has brought in some Hollywood star power, in the shape of actor Alexander Skarsgård.
Hang on, is he the scary Skarsgård?
No, that would be his brother Bill, who plays the scary title roles in It and Nosferatu. Not that Alexander can't be scary - anyone who's seen his turn in TV series Big Little Lies knows what I'm talking about - but he's more like Scandi Cool in human form, and best known for his work in Succession and Murderbot.
So what's he doing here?
Basically, he's being really cool, giving the Polestar 5 - which is also very cool - something of a run for its money. The idea is that Skarsgård thinks he's some kind of slick, be-suited, secret agent (we're not going to even suggest that he's a good potential choice for an upcoming spy movie re-boot…) who assumes that the Polestar 5 is his new spy car.
Has Polestar fitted the 5 with gadgets, then?

No, and that's kind of the point of the video. Skarsgård is shown around the car by a Polestar expert called Pierce (ahem), whom the Swedish actor refers to as P (again, ahem). When Pierce points out the 112kWh battery, the 650kW (that's 884hp) twin electric motors, the 3.2-second 0-100km/h run time, and the big touchscreen and digital rear-view mirror, Skarsgård is impressed—but insists on asking if the car has a flamethrower. Or space for a jet pack.
So, it's funny?
Yes, it genuinely is, in that bone-dry-wit way that's none more Swedish, and there's an obvious link being drawn between the cool factor of the Polestar 5 and that of a certain cinematic (and literary) super-spy. Or maybe it's just that Skarsgård looks amazing in a suit, and the Polestar 5 looks amazing in its matte grey paintwork. Either or.
