Volvo has announced a round of updates to the EX90 electric SUV, which include faster charging and a new entry-level single-motor model.
Does that mean the EX90 is now cheaper?
Yes, but maybe 'cheaper' isn't quite the right word. Given that the 333hp single motor model costs €99,895, we'd say 'more affordable' might be the better phrase. This new version of the EX90 has a one-charge range of up to 608km.
What else is new?
There's also a switch to faster 800-volt charging for the EX90. That 800-volt system means that there's less heat build-up during charging, which means you can pump more energy in, more quickly, allowing for as much as 250km extra range in 10 minutes of charging. Volvo hasn't given a charging power dirtier for the updated EX90 battery, but says that it has been tested at 350kW charging stations, so that might give you some idea.
What about tech upgrades?

Volvo is also introducing a new central computer for the EX90, one that will be retro-fitted to cars already on the road in due course, not just because it performs better, but also because Volvo has recognised that the early EX90 computing system just wasn't up to scratch.
The new in-car computer features an NVIDIA Drove AGX Orin-based core computer, which means that the EX90 now has 500 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second) of computing power. That's lots, and Volvo says that the new system will dramatically improve the car's all-round performance, not just its infotainment system.
“The additional computing power enables us to harness the power of AI, data and software to further enhance safety and overall performance of the EX90,” says Anders Bell, chief technology & engineering officer at Volvo Cars. “This means we can provide our customers with advanced safety and driver support features, along with continuous improvements to the infotainment and battery management systems - all delivered seamlessly over the air.”
Anything else?
There's a safety system update too - of course there is, this is a Volvo - which includes an Emergency Stop Assist, which can recognise if a driver has become incapacitated, such as in the event of a heart attack, and can bring the car to a safe stop at the side of the road, contacting the emergency services as it does so.
There's also a new electronically dimming glass roof and an upgraded auto-parking system.
When can I have one?
You can order the updated EX90 right now, and the first deliveries in Ireland should take place in the first couple of months of 2026.
