Sixty years ago, Aston Martin first used Volante (which translates from Italian as 'flying') as the name for one of its convertibles. No, it wasn't called a DB5, but it was in fact a separate model based on the DB5, badged 'Short Chassis Volante.' Since then, Aston has always used the Volante name for its convertible models.
I presume some celebrating is in order, then?

It certainly is, and as part of that Aston has ordered up a couple of special editions from its Q division (spot the 007 link...) which is the brand's bespoke service offering high-paying customers unique specifications and even one-off cars.
The first of the 60th Anniversary of Volante Editions is the Vanquish Volante, with its mighty 835hp 5.3-litre V12 engine. For the special 60th birthday model, Aston and Q have added 'Pentland Green' paint, matched with a 'Westminster Green' convertible top.

There are anodised bronze accents, too, and even anodised bronze for the famous Aston Martin grille, giving almost a patinated classic look. The 21-inch wheels are also bronzed, as is the aluminium 'strake' in the side vents. Finally, there are enamelled “Q by Aston Martin” badges, so that you know just how exclusive this car is.
What about the interior?

Inside the Vanquish, you'll find a three-colour leather cabin, featuring 'Centenary Saddle Tan', 'Ivory' and 'Woven' leathers. Those are matched with 'Dark Walnut' open-pore wood, more bronze highlights and 60th Anniversary embroidered seatbacks.
You mentioned a DB12 as well?

Yup, the DB12 60th Anniversary of Volante model gets exactly the same paint, roof, trim and cabin features as the Vanquish, but you have to make do with its 680hp twin-turbo V8 engine instead. Awww, poor soul.
Jolyon Nash, Chief Commercial Officer at Aston Martin, said: “Volante is one of Aston Martin's most evocative names, representing six decades of the ultimate open-top driving experience. With the 60th Anniversary of Volante Editions, we've created a truly exclusive celebration of that legacy - bringing together the raw power of Vanquish Volante and the refined versatility of DB12 Volante in a way that speaks directly to our most discerning customers. These cars are the embodiment of rarity, performance and craftsmanship that define Q by Aston Martin.”
When can I have one?

First deliveries of these Volante 60th birthday editions are due for the end of this year, but they will be practically common compared to their illustrious ancestor - 60 of each of the DB12 and Vanquish 60th Anniversary of Volantes will be built, but just 37 Short Chassis Volantes were made back in 1965.
